Launch of Marine(s): Ewan Lebourdais celebrates 400 years of French Navy history
The Pôle Mer is pleased to highlight one of its members, Ewan Lebourdais, photographer and Official Painter of the French Navy, on the occasion of the launch of his new work, Marine(s), an exceptional art book dedicated to 400 years of history of the French Navy.
The result of several years of work and a deep passion for the maritime world, Marine(s) offers a fresh perspective on the contemporary Navy, at the crossroads of tradition and modernity.
The Birth of an Ambitious Project
It all began in November 2023, during a conversation with Vincent Lorant, director of Ouest-France Editions, which sparked a simple idea: what if a book paid tribute to the French Navy on the occasion of its 400th anniversary?
A few months later, the challenge was met. Under the editorial direction of Laurence Morvan, Ewan Lebourdais teamed up with Dominique Le Brun, a writer specializing in maritime subjects, to create a work that is both artistic and accessible: a photographic and human tribute to those who serve the sea.
Comprising 224 pages and 90% never-before-seen photographs, Marine(s) revisits the French Navy through the lens of beauty, power, and commitment.
From portraits to ships and seascapes, each image tells a part of this maritime journey that began under Louis XIII.
